"Ampututes are not disabled by a missing limb -- but a missing prosthesis." - Zach Gowen
Thanks for making it to my page! As some of you know, I am completing my Master's in Orthotics and Prosthetics and will be graduating this coming December after I complete the rest of my (unpaid) residencies!
After being in grad school for the past couple of years, I felt that I could give back to the community and do my part to make a difference. Some of my classmates and I have the opportunity to travel to Guatemala to provide care to Guatemalans with amputations alongside the current staff there. The whole week we are there, we will put our skills to use to provide our best care to deliver prostheses and training to those in need.
The program that runs this, ROMP, helps us with fundraising opportunities like this one to help raise money and awareness for these types of trips. The trip itself costs 1,500 dollars - which is hard to raise on a student budget. If by a miracle I raise passed this goal, any additional funds I have raised will go solely to helping me pay for my flight as that is not covered in the organization's fees. Any additional funds after that will go back to the organization itself or will help a fellow classmate with their journey!
As much as I hope to raise all the funds for this trip alongside our current savings, any donation helps. It would mean so much to be able to give back to the O&P community and help those that do not have the opportunities that amputees elsewhere have. :)
