Dear Family and Friends,
My Bar Mitzvah is going to be on November 3, 2018 and I have decided to support an organization called Experience Camps for my Mitzvah project. Experience Camps are one-week camps for boys and girls who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. It's a place where kids can laugh, cry, play, create, remember the person who died, or forget the grief that weighs them down. It's a place where they can feel "normal", because everyone there has been through something similar and understands what it's like to lose someone important to them. It's a home away from home. And just about all of them will tell you..."It's the best week of the year". The program helps build confidence, encourages laughter, and allows them to navigate their grief through friendship, teamwork, athletics, and the common bond of loss.
For my Bar Mitzvah, I thought long and hard about what I could do that would truly make a difference. I wanted to do something that really had meaning for me, and also something that could make a difference for other kids. That’s when I thought about camp. I am fortunate enough to be able to attend Camp Blue Star in North Carolina. The times that I spend at camp are some of the best times of my life and I think about how happy and fulfilled I feel when I am at camp. When I learned about Experience Camps, I realized this was an organization I wanted to help. Knowing how much camp means to me I would love to help give these children who have been through so much, the incredible experience of camp. No amount is too small and every contribution makes a big difference for these kids! It costs $1,000 to send a kid to camp for a week. Experience Camps is a non for profit 501(c)3 organization. The organization is trying to help as many kids as possible so they need all the help we can give them! Please consider helping me help these campers. Your support means so much to me.
Love, Max
