I am honored to be running the 2020 Boston Marathon for the Mass General Hospital Pediatric Cancer Center Team to raise awareness and funds that will help spread hope for kids fighting cancer.
When I think about childhood cancer my heart breaks. Childhood cancer first came into my life just last year when the child of a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with brain cancer. I didn’t know how to help. I was so incredibly sad. I stayed up all night struggling with how something like this could happen. I thought about my nieces, nephews, my friends' children and I asked God to please help me find a way to help. Within weeks, I learned that another friend’s child, Ario, has been suffering from Ependymoma, a very rare childhood cancer. Ario is a warrior. He is a patient at Mass General Hospital for Children (MGHfC) and has been facing this challenge for nearly 10 years, with multiple recurrences that have been treated with surgeries, rounds of radiation and other continuing therapies. He’s doing this all while living an active teenage lifestyle. He is also helping other young patients by sharing his experience.
I am running Boston Marathon in honor of Ario. His courage, strength and passion for life will be my motivation to train and conquer the 26.2 miles and help raise funds to bring him and other kids fighting cancer the hope for a cure and a better quality of life.
The funds raised through my race will go directly to MGHfC to advance childhood cancer research, increase clinical studies to improve cure rates, and to provide the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients.
I hope you will consider donating to my race and help support the fight against kids’ cancer together!

About MGH Pediatric Cancer Team:
Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock, the Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time has raised over $15.5 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care, research, and initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
Thanks in large part to the philanthropic dollars raised by this Marathon Team, MGHfC is advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates, and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients.
MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families through the child life program, which utilizes therapeutic play - music and art therapy to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses.
Each year more patients than ever before are referred to us because we continue to be leaders in transforming cancer care for children.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends, as they embark on fundraising and training for the historic 26.2 mile race.
