Thanks to your generosity last year, I had another successful season of fundraising for my 28th Boston marathon . I continue to be very proud and inspired by our dedicated runners who have raised over 15 million dollars since we started our marathon program in 1998. My pediatric oncology staff and all of our patients and their families are so grateful for everything our marathon team does to support our efforts to increase the cure rates and improve the quality of life for children with cancer. My goal is to continue running the Boston marathon until we have reached our goal of curing 100% of children with cancer.
Each year I dedicate my marathon run to one of my new patients. Last year, I ran for Cris. Cris is a 7-year-old boy who is being treated for leukemia. I am happy to report that he is doing great and keeps us all amused during his many clinic visits. This year I am running in honor of Thomas. He is also 7 years old and was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Thomas is a happy, soft spoken , fun loving little boy who doesn't miss a word about our conversations in clinic. His favorite post clinic activity is going shopping with his parents. I am thrilled to have Thomas as my patient partner this year.
Thank you again for your support and confidence in our work. Our patients and families thank you for your kindness and generosity. You can sponsor me online or make a check payable to the MassGeneral Hospital and mail it to me at: Pedi. Hem. -Onc., MassGeneral Hospital for Children - 55 Fruit Street, Yawkey 8B, Boston, MA 02114.
Best wishes and I hope to see you at Mile 20 on April 20, 2020.
