In 2017 I was diagnosed with an Inherited Retinal Disease (IRD), which is causing my central vision to deteriorate. As this is a genetic issue with the cells in my retina not working properly, the issue can not be corrected with glasses or contact lens. As of now, there is no cure for the disease. However, genetic research is leading the way to develop new drugs and therapies to correct the issue.
I am a law enforcement officer and am currently employed as a Detective with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Ossipee, NH. I have been a law enforcement officer since 2003 and hope to continue in this career as long as my eyesight allows. Although I accomplish the goals of my job differently then most officers, using assistive technology and visual aids, still allows me to perform my duties.
I am an avid sports enthusiast and have competed in numerous triathalons over the years to include the IRONMAN race in Lake Placid, NY this past July.
I am excited for the opportunity to compete in the 2020 Boston Marathon, as through my fundraising I can contribute to research and funding for a cure. I feel as though it is a way that I can directly contribute to help myself and other affected by the disease.
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.
