Mason's Mitzvah for Smiles
Every morning for the past 7 years, I have been listening to a show on the radio called The Bert Show. It makes me laugh, think and sometimes even cry. Bert is the main DJ and many years ago he started a program called Bert's Big Adventure. It has grown by leaps and bounds and is still going strong. Bert's Big Adventure is an amazing program where children who suffer from chronic and terminal illnesses are chosen to take a once in a lifetime trip to Disney World. Every year I look forward to hearing the very moving stories of these children and how much fun they have on their trip. It always seems like the kids impact the volunteers more than the other way around. Almost 3 years ago, my sister was diagnosed with a chronic illness. Fortunately, we have the resources and are with the doctors that are able to control her Crohn's Disease. Then, a year later, I was diagnosed with the same condition. But we are lucky. We are doing great! We have been to Disney World and I totally understand why they say it is the "Happiest Place on Earth". The week we were there was also the week of Bert's Big Adventure. I was able to witness the happiness those children were experiencing. I will never forget the smiles on their faces. Fast forward to now. When my parents asked me what I wanted to do for my Mitzvah Project in honor of my upcoming Bar Mitzvah, I did not hesitate. My family is already very involved in the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. And I am very proud of our involvement, but, I wanted to do something on my own. I wanted to do something that would make kids happy. I want to raise money for Bert's Big Adventure. Please help me reach my goal! Donate in honor of someone you know. Donate because, like me, you like to make other kids smile.
