As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that is plaguing our country and specifically the NJ/NY Area, Backpacks For Life, a NJ nonprofit, and United States Manufacturing Corporation, a NJ manufacturer have joined together as two veteran owned entities with a combined 32 years of textile and manufacturing experience, to develop surgical masks with BFE95 rated materials.
Our goal is set at $25,000 but we have the opportunity to continue producing larger quantities of masks and get them into the hands of those who deserve it most.
Just a small donation of $3.80 covers the cost of materials, labor & distribution for ONE mask. We have sourced additional materials to make 150,000 masks but we need YOUR help to get us there.
$3.00 - labor to produce per mask
$0.60 - materials
$0.20 - shipping & distribution of the masks. Any additional funds will be put directly back into sourcing more masks.
These masks will NOT be for sale and will only be distributed to those serving on the front lines at Hospitals, VA Hospitals and Veteran Shelters.
Of the 3 layers of our mask, we are using a nonwoven polypropylene on the outer and inner most layers with a nonwoven heat blown statically charged Polypropylene filtration layer in between them. More on that below...
When you support this campaign, you help local U.S. manufacturers, veteran owned small businesses and help keep individuals employed!
About The Organization
Backpacks For Life is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves the homeless and at-risk veteran community by regularly distributing backpacks to homeless veterans filled with critical daily & long term essentials as well as providing mentorship to at-risk veterans and their families. To date, we have distributed over 7,500 backpacks to Veterans in 19 states and work closely with health care providers, hospitals, VA centers, just to name a few. With all that has been going on we knew we had to step in.When COVID-19 began to rapidly affect those in our community and state, we felt compelled to figure out a way to help support those who are protecting us day in and day out. With manufacturing experience from developing a backpack for homeless veterans, the Backpacks For Life team has secured the domestic partners to source all components of these masks. Our backpack was developed and manufactured here in the USA using as many domestic suppliers as possible. With the help of our friends at New Jersey Veterans Network, we were able to secure materials & supplies for our first run but we won't stop here!

The BFL Mask is comprised of 3 layers of nonwoven polypropylene material:
Layer 1 (outside): 1.5 oz Spunbond Nonwoven Polypropylene - This layer is environmentally friendly - it degrades under UV sunlight. It is also water repellent and breathable.
Layer 2 (filtration): BFE95 Nonwoven Statically Charged Meltblown Polypropylene - This is the most important layer of the mask, which has a Bacteria Filtration Efficiency (BFE) of 95% with a .3 micron filtration.
Layer 3 (inside): 1.0 oz Spunbond Nonwoven Polypropylene - This layer is environmentally friendly - it degrades under UV sunlight. It is also water repellent and breathable.

The mask also includes the following components:
Prostretch Polyester Braided Elastic - the elastic is sewn on the short side of the mask to cinch it properly to the face. An additional 1” piece is sewn at the chin to ensure no gaps and that the mask sits flush against the face
Plasties Paper precision-wound twist tie with heavy duty, double 24-gauge metal core - a 3” piece is sewn atop all 3 layers, similar to an N95 masks, which allows the user to fit the mask accurately to the bridge of their nose.
