On June 15th, I join a group of adventurers to hike 23.9 miles from the Grand Canyon's north rim to south rim. I'm excited, I'm nervous, but I'm equally motivated for this challenging trek in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Child Mind Institute (www.childmind.org).
I've been an educator for 18 years, and I believe what children have to say is very important. Further, the more we support them in finding their voice, the greater their self-esteem becomes. This seems obvious but can be remarkably complex as children navigate growing up — and yet finding their voice (i.e. understanding who and what is important to them and why) is crucial because high self-esteem is a major building block in good mental health.
The Child Mind Institute is an independent, national nonprofit dedicated to just that: supporting good mental health. Specifically, they stive to transform the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders. They commit to providing access to the care children need, advancing the research in brain development to better support healthy diagnoses, and providing accurate information for all involved in helping a child.
Please consider joining me in aiding the efforts of Child Mind Institute by making a tax-deductible donation. Funds raised by this event solely support Child Mind Institute.
Grand Canyon Rim-To-Rim Hike is an Adventure for Charity hosted by Difference Makers Global Community. To make a difference for those in need, participants will use the adventure to raise funds and awareness for a charitable organization dear to them. To learn more, visit www.differencemakers.org.
