For the second year, on Sunday, October 6th, I will be participating in the 10th Anniversary of Hope Walks, a community walk to benefit the Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH).
I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer in November 2017 after having a routine mammogram with the 3D mammography in the Women's Imaging Center at NWH. I had surgery in January 2018 and have been under the care of Dr. Amy Commander at the Vernon Cancer Center.
Funds raised through this annual event give cancer patients access to life-saving treatments and highly individualized, compassionate care that treats every component of a patient’s wellbeing: physical, emotional and more. I have had the good fortune of being able to have most of my treatment at NWH while having access to the best MGH doctors. During the past 18 months, I have had access to massage therapy for breast cancer patients with lyphedema, a personal trainer who specializes on working with breast cancer patients, a nutritionist and all of the awesome doctors and nurses at the Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital (fka Vernon Cancer Center.) My family also had access to mental health professionals at the Center.
I am excited to participate in the 10th Anniversary of Hope Walks again this year and to send a strong message of HOPE to all those touched by cancer.
