Join us in honoring Madame Marie-Jeanne Delevaux-Hargitt!
With your help we will name a Children's Classroom in honor of Marie-Jeanne, in the new home of Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul at 227 Colfax Ave N in Minneapolis.
In October 2018, Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul acquired a new building and parking lot for its headquarters. Renovation of the interior has begun and in 2020 will include additional classroom and event spaces, as well as a children’s wing with four designated children's classrooms.
To recognize the work and dedication of Marie-Jeanne Delevaux-Hargitt teaching French in the Twin Cities at Alliance Française, Normandale French Immersion, the French Academy and other institutions, a group of parents are organizing this fundraiser to raise sufficient funds to name a classroom in her honor. Naming rights for a children’s classroom are set at $25,000. A gift in any amount will help us reach our goal in recognizing Marie-Jeanne’s work in our communities, and will ensure that her legacy continues to inspire future French-learners.
Marie-Jeanne was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. She holds a degree in Elementary Education. After 4 years of teaching, being fascinated by other cultures, she taught French in a Swiss school in Bogata, Colombia and backpacked South America. After returning to Switzerland, she did research in education with a team of Swiss educators and conducted seminars for teachers. She arrived in Minneapolis in 1982 and has taught at the Alliance Française since 1983. As one of the founders of the Normandale Elementary French Immersion School in Edina, teaching children French continues to be one of her many passions.
The mission of the Alliance Française of the Twin Cities is to promote the use and appreciation of French language and French-speaking cultures in our community through language classes, cultural programs, social events and information resources. Your generous donation helps to foster a vibrant, multi-cultural community. Alliance Française is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization #51-0178191. Your gift is tax-deductible.
