My name is Marianna Becharas and I am raising money to donate to Detroit Swims. Detroit swims was started by the YMCA with the goal that all children in Detroit have the opportunity to learn how to swim. In the city of Detroit, 70% of children cannot swim and are 3x more likely to drown. Many low income children do not own a swim suit and cannot afford swim lessons. Some have never even been in a pool. Detroit Swims provides these kids swim wear, towels, transportation, certified lifeguard and swim instructors. Your support will help provide more kids the opportunity to learn how to swim in the city of Detroit. In the past, Detroit Swims would accept donations of the tangible items the kids need to get into the pool. However, due to Covid, all these items need to be provided as new ones. The need to donate now is more than ever before.
I have been a swimmer at the YMCA since the age of 6 and I am very passionate about swimming, and this cause, and helping others learn how to swim. One day, I am hoping to become a lifeguard or swim instructor in this program. Thank you in advance for your support in helping me to raise money for Detroit swims.
