I was fully asleep when I received a text message from a group. The message simply read “4X4X48, thinking about doing it if you’d like to join”. I had no idea what this meant, but I did ignore the message until the next morning. I finally asked what “4X4X48” means. I should have left it alone. The invitation came from two good friends, more brothers than friends, with whom I served with in the Marines. Therefore, I could not say no. I will be starting this 48 hour challenge on 3/5 at 11pm, and it will end on 3/7 at 11pm.
As challenging as this may seem, I strongly recommend taking on the challenge. The key is to push yourself and understanding what you are truly capable of. As David Googins explained, you do not have to run the entire 48 miles, you may adjust the challenge as it best fits you.
I am taking advantage of this opportunity to raise money for Autism research. In 2020, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With such a high number of children being affected, it is important to identify the root cause of the disorder.
