Emerald Media Group has joined forces with two dozen student-run media outlets at colleges across the United States for a nationwide fundraising competition from March 15 through April 5. College Media Madness is a first-of-its-kind effort uniting college newsrooms to raise awareness — and money — for the important work student journalists do.
Traditionally, March Madness is an exciting time for Duck basketball and our focus is to be able to raise enough money to send our reporters and photographers to follow our Ducks' dream to make it to the Final Four and become national champions. That tradition is very much alive and our students are as excited as ever to be able to cover the games, and make those valuable professional connections that often result in employment after college. We sent two passionate student sports reporters to the games.
But, this year is different, the pandemic has not been kind to Emerald Media Group. Like most media outlets many of our revenue streams have been reduced to a slow trickle. We need to raise money beyond what may be needed for travel to cover the Ducks. We need your continued support to ensure that there is a sustainable future for student journalism. Because we are proudly independent from the university, we're relying on you to support our mission, our work and our journalists.
