Marathon of the Treasure Coast Running to Cure Type 1 has selected Macey's Believers as their Charity, with the goal of working together to encourage one another while training and fundraising for MB in the Marathon of the Treasure Coast. We will cheer one another through the finish line on race day and smile when we are all handed shiny medals!
This team has been formed by Michelle Mazzella-Schincariol, this is her story...
My story is born of love for my son who was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Type 1 (T1) diabetes when he was 8 years old. While in the hospital with him, I vowed to do whatever it took to find a cure so he would not have to endure this challenging disease for the rest of his life. I love to run, I love Marathon of the Treasure Coast for supporting charities and giving back, and I want to cure my son; so I created relay teams to do all of it!
Our teams are made up of parents of T1’s, children of T1’s, and T1’s themselves, as well as those impacted by Type 2. We also cherish our friends and family that continually support our desire to cure this disease. I hope you find your involvement rewarding and fulfilling both for yourself reaching a personal challenge of feeling the pavement of a Marathon course and knowing you are contributing to help find a cure for heroes like my son. To quote Tom Karlya, Diabetes Dad and VP at DRI, “your $1 may be the dollar that purchases the petri dish that saves my child's life”.
Let’s get fit, train hard, fundraise as much as we can and most importantly have fun!
With love and gratitude, Michelle (mom to Jake Type 1, age 14)
