Most of you know my connection with horses as an owner and breeder of and bettor on racehorses. But there's another aspect of my connection with these beautiful animals. For 25 years I've been involved with Pegasus Therapeutic Riding, first as their outside counsel and more recently as a member of the Board of Directors. In those capacities I've been able to see firsthand the life-changing impact equine-assisted therapy can have.
Your support means a child can develop greater fine motor control, become more empathic and engaged, develop verbal skills, gain core strength – benefits that carry over into their everyday lives. It means that an adult can master independent tasks like the ability to take a shower by one’s self. It also means that veterans can overcome PTSD and carry the ability to relax over to their families and jobs.
Just to give you a little history; Pegasus is a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center with three chapters throughout Putnam and Fairfield counties, including Pegasus Farm, our 20-acre permanent facility in Brewster, N.Y. Our PATH-certified instructors, physical and occupational therapists, and licensed educators provide equine-assisted activities and therapies to people with special needs (i.e., individuals with physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities), individuals at risk and military veterans. Our recently launched Veterans program has had remarkable results and is changing the lives of the men and women who have served our country. “With all the stress I’m going through in my life with cancer and the open heart surgery it’s a safe place to go to. I can feel totally relaxed.” Pete- Veteran
