In 2010, Larry Edelson invited me to participate in the Composer and Librettist Development Program at American Lyric Theater (ALT). Over the course of the next year, I was introduced not only to the historic, artistic legacy of the opera tradition through the brilliant mentorship of Mark Adamo, Cori Ellison, Mark Campbell and various guest artists, but I also got to work with the shapers of tomorrow’s masterpieces, composers like Justine Chen, Chris Cerrone, Gerald Cohen. Since then, ALT has been a great advocate of my work, commissioning the new opera THE LIFE AND DEATH(S) OF ALAN TURING, with my CLDP classmate, composer Justine Chen. We are thrilled to be heading out to Chicago next February to work with Chicago Opera Theatre on our orchestral workshop of ALAN TURING. American Lyric Theater is exclusively dedicated to empowering the composers and librettists that are writing the operatic masterpieces of tomorrow. For more than 10 years, ALT has been devoted to cultivating emerging opera composers and librettists in the United States. Since inception, ALT alums have debuted numerous critically-acclaimed operas nationwide and received commissions from companies like the Metropolitan Opera and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Help ALT continue their transformative work of supporting emerging composers and librettists by giving them the tools to ensure that today’s premieres can become tomorrow’s classics. Please consider contributing to the future of American opera. All your contributions will be DOUBLED by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
