Help us make masks & support the people of southeastern Senegal during the Covid-19 crisis.
We work with the people of southeastern Senegal to conserve the Critically Endangered chimpanzees of this country. Since the majority of Senegal's chimpanzees live outside of nationally protected areas, the health of humans relates directly to the health of our closest living relatives, chimpanzees. As part of our commitment to the people and wildlife of Senegal, Neighbor Ape organization is funding a mask-making project. Every mask that is made will be given to a person in the Kedougou region, and they will be made by a tailor in the town of Kedougou. Our committed Senegalese researchers continue to monitor the Fongoli chimpanzees and to record there wherabouts and health from a distance, but their families and the people they live alongside don't have access to the masks they need. The Fongoli project has a small amount of disposable masks, but we want to start this project to produce washable masks and anticipate that our tailor will be working for the next few months to supply these much-needed masks.
We kindly ask that you join us in supporting the community. Your gift will help provide immediate financial support so the tailor can purchase cloth and thread and employ assistants to help him while still social distancing. Every $3 you give purchases one completed mask.
