Living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be challenging at best and isolating, fearful, and exhausting at worst. Just ask the parents living with an autistic child. For the parents of children who exhibit severe symptoms of autism, they know their child will require life-long care.
Unfortunately, while they could turn to licensed institutions, many families either can’t afford the ongoing cost or can’t face the prospect of surrendering their child to such a facility. And so, they choose to keep them at home. But what happens when the parents either die or are themselves too infirmed to care for an adult disabled child?
The answer to that is heartbreaking. Adults living with ASD are either bounced from family member to family member, forced to live in a group home hundreds of miles from their community, forced to live on the street or become a ward of the state. And how many families dream of a future like that for their child?
We are Neuro Diverse Living (NDL), a tax-exempt nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide adults living with ASD or other intellectual developmental disabilities in Southeastern Pennsylvania safe and sustainable homes where they can thrive and become a member of their local community. Our homes will offer parents of an adult child with autism or an intellectual disability a sense of comfort, knowing their disabled child will have a permanent and safe place to live with the same opportunities at life as their peers without ASD.
Your gift can give them that opportunity. Thank you for your kind consideration. Please let us know if you have questions. Meanwhile, we look forward to having you join this most worthy of causes.
