The YMCA continues to Make Every Day Better for children and families, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Yes, we had to close all our facilities and furlough over 96% of our staff. However, our mission did not close. We immediately ramped up our food distribution programs and established virtual YMCA services. We have offered all members the opportunity to: Sustain, Suspend, or Stop their membership fees. This coupled with a near halt of our annual campaign, special event cancellations, and fee-for-service program suspensions, collectively created an extraordinary financial challenge. True, our buildings are closed, but the mission continues. In March and April 2020, we have distributed over 57,000 meals, made wellness calls to over 1000 seniors, and reached over 200 young people with our virtual programs. We are providing:
15,000 meals weekly, ensuring every child gets fed 16 meals each week
Free online fitness classes for children 24/7
Free online improv acting administered by Y Arts
Free tele/virtual counseling for YMCA Achiever teens and parents
And we launched the online Detroit Can Film Festival for youth ages 12-18
Your contribution today helps us make every day better for our children.
