Baltimore Choral Arts’ final concert of the 2018-19 season, Captivity to Liberty, is coming up on Sunday, May 12 at 3pm at Goucher College, and we need your help! We will perform the U.S. premiere of Jonathan Dove's large-scale community opera The Monster in the Maze, which features multi-generational collaborations with artists and institutions throughout Baltimore. This piece was originally commissioned by Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, and Festival d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence, and it tells the ancient legend of Theseus and the Minotaur.
We have assembled a superb creative team for this venture, including stage director Paul Peers and costume designer Heather Jackson. This concert will also include performances by The Maryland State Boychoir, The Larks, and the Johns Hopkins Peabody Youth Orchestra.
However, we are most excited to bring this Minotaur to life with a puppetry costume designed by Baltimore artist Charles Nesci, who will also perform as the Minotaur. Help us make a monster!
As this involves more dramatic production and costuming than our concerts typically require, we need your help! By donating to this project, you will be helping Baltimore Choral Arts create a fun, interactive, and collaborative concert experience to be enjoyed by hundreds of people in Baltimore. Donations of any size are appreciated!
If you prefer to donate by check, please mail to: Baltimore Choral Arts, c/o Julia Malecki, 1316 Park Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21217.
