ERAF is raising much-needed funds to cover the costs associated with the surgery and aftercare of our rescued off-the-track Thoroughbred Maisie. She arrived at ERAF in May of 2017 with the #Indiantown12 malnourished and very underweight. We know that she raced as "Win It Back SF", but - as is the case with many in our herd - not much more about her.
This sweet mare underwent surgery to have a calcinosis circumscripta - an abnormal bump of hard, bony material - removed from her left rear leg. Although these large bumps sometimes develop as a result of a traumatic injury, such as a kick from another horse, they can also arise with no such history of trauma.
Maisie has had the mass since her arrival at ERAF. It has been closely monitored by our veterinarian and staff and ultimately surgical removal was recommended.
She is currently recovering at the ERAF barn - after a multiple day stay with the surgical veterinarian - and is doing very well. We will keep you posted on her progress!
All donations are GREATLY appreciated! Every amount counts towards reaching our fundraising goal. Please feel free to share!
Thank you from all of us at ERAF.
This is what we do. We cannot do it without you!
