Maggie the SAG Dog is the SAG (Support And Gear) Dog for the Gateway Chapter’s Team in Training cycling team. She is a 3 year-Old Black Labrador and this is her story...
Maggie is the sweet pup of John and Johnelle Rhines. John and Johnelle have been involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since 2001, when their daughter Kailie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Kailie was the Honored Hero for the cycling team that is now known as Kailie’s Krew. Kailie passed away in August of 2004. Every year, Kailie’s Krew goes to Lake Tahoe in memory of Kailie and in honor of other blood cancer fighters with a goal to raise at least $100K to fund a research portfolio in the Honored Hero’s name.
Maggie came along in 2016 and on her very first weekend home joined John in the SAG wagon supporting the cycling team as they trained and fundraised to fight blood cancer. She was soon dubbed “Maggie the SAG Dog“ by one of the coaches and has been on duty ever since. Not only does she support her team, Kailie’s Krew, but she travels to Tahoe and gives supporting tail wags and kisses to all of the Team in Training teammates participating in America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride as they ride 100 miles to raise money to fight blood cancers for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Tahoe 2020 will be her third trip out to big blue to support the teammates.
We never dreamed that Maggie’s ”stardom” would reach the possibility of fighting blood cancer in the form of the LLS “Dog of the Year Campaign.”
Please donate and help Maggie fight blood cancer and become the first ever LLS DOG OF THE YEAR!
