Mid America Freedom Band has been delighting audiences around Kansas City for almost 20 years. Season after season, our volunteer musicians, staff and board work hard to bring the best of concert band music to every performance, while championing under-represented composers, commissioning new works, and having fun making music with our friends! We have grown tremendously throughout the years, and the need for more space, and updated instruments is always a pressing challenge for our non-profit organization.
During our last concert, one of our timpani heads was broken. This was a donated set that we were given after another band moved on to shiny new things... but we were thankful to have it! Now, after all of these years, it is time to get a shiny new set of our own, and we are thankful for anyone who helps along the way!
Mid America Freedom Band provides opportunities for instrumental music lovers to share their passion of performance with the diverse community of Kansas City. It strives for excellence while promoting equality, fostering education and celebrating the joy shared through music.
MAFB empowers its members by giving musicians a greater sense of confidence and music ability. The artistic staff pushes members and audiences musically by programming attainable, yet challenging, music. For the past several seasons, MAFB has commissioned new works from leading and up and coming composers, championed the music of female, African American, LGBTQIA, and other marginalized composers, and every February holds an educational concert at the National World War I Museum and Memorial to highlight music and cultural issues from that era.
