In honor of Maeve’s birthday this year, we will be making a donation to the National CMV foundation. For those who would like to do the same, please know that through December 15th, Francis and I will match total donations up to $1,000.
I remember so vividly the day Maeve was born. After weeks of many unknowns, multiple tests, I was on bed rest in the hospital. The Dr. came in and said it was time. You had stopped moving and they needed to intervene. That afternoon, 10 weeks early and weighing 2lbs 2 oz you arrived. With the NICU staff on standby, I recall how amazed they were that you were breathing unassisted. It was then that we first witnessed your strength. 3 days later we learned you tested positive for congenital CMV. I had never heard of CMV before that day. I wish I had known. I wish I had been educated.
The months and years ahead would be been filled with many hills and valleys. Many new diagnoses. Many tests of my faith. Many milestones that proved your fight and resilience. Many amazing people who showed up and stayed to support us.
I have watched my son Cooper grow into a compassionate, caring big brother. I have watched the devotion and dedication Francis demonstrates for his daughter and feel blessed to have such an amazing partner on this journey. And I continue to be reminded of the beauty in Tulips.
Happy Birthday sweet Maeve, thank you for continuing to teach me every day...
Please help support this amazing foundation and assist in their mission of educating women of childbearing age about congenital CMV, so that together we can eliminate it for the next generation.
