Abandoned in a pillowcase on the streets of Haiti, baby Macron miraculously survived against all odds and is now receiving an abundance of love at Emmanuel Children’s Home Foundation of Haiti. He has been a part of our family for a little over a year now.
Macron was born with a rare skin condition called Ichthyosis. Ichthyosis is a family of genetic skin disorders characterized by dry, scaling skin that may be thickened or very thin. Some of the numerous medical complications are dehydration, infections, chronic blistering, overheating, and rapid-calorie loss (FIRST, 2021). Unfortunately, due to the remote location of the orphanage in the mountains of Haiti, access to medical care is very limited. At this time living in Haiti poses several risks to his already compromised health.
-The lack of access to clean water increases his chances of skin infections as he is already predisposed to a weak skin barrier. Macron has already battled scabies, open lesions and pus-filled eruptions known as a “button” epidemic to name a few.
-Extreme heat with no access to constant power to provide a cool environment puts him at an even greater risk of suffering heat strokes, something that he is already at a high risk of.
-The uncleanliness of the environment as it is full of constant dust due to the conditions of the property also play a negative role in attempting to maintain a clean and healthy environment for his skin.
For all these reasons we are working on a medical visa to be able to bring Macron to the U.S. for a comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment. Maria, founder of Shining Souls Corp, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization who has partnered with us at Emmanuel Children’s Home, left everything behind in Florida to take care of Macron and has been at the orphanage caring for him for the last nine months with hopes of one day being able to adopt him. At this time we are working with several medical professionals hoping to find a hospital willing to provide Macron with the care he needs. Unfortunately we have been told that due to Macron being an international case there is no financial assistance and we would have to cover all expenses. In addition to medical expenses we also have consulate and travel costs.
We truly appreciate any and all help to get this little guy the help he needs to have a better quality of health and life. Please help us spread the word by sharing this campaign!
