Since 1996 “Move A Child Higher, MACH 1, has been dedicated to bringing self-confidence, physical strength and emotional well being to people with disabilities through equine assisted activities and community involvement”.
MACH 1 takes pride in the care and love it gives to our special equine friends. There is much needed veterinary care, including teeth work for the horses and donkey, Mercy Lavender. The 7 equines’ basic monthly expenses are high and the feed alone is $1,500. The shoeing costs are another $400.00. There is equine insurance, medications and supplements, etc. This does not include unexpected emergencies.
Horses used for therapy are rare jewels and hard to find. They require extensive training in order to be safe and effective. We have rigorous safety standards. They need to be tolerant and have good movement for the riders that have balance issues. We need horses that hardly ever spook and horses that can handle two volunteers walking next to them on either side of the rider plus a horse leader if needed.
MACH 1 wants to be here for generations to come and provide important equine assisted activities. 80% of the students are from low to moderate- income families who otherwise couldn’t afford therapy.
MACH 1 urgently needs financial support for the horse care. Without them the program would not exist because they are the core of what we do. Please help the students and their special friends. Every penny counts. We exist because you care. Thank you for your support.
“For the past five years, our daughter, Sofia, age 10, has benefitted directly from the wonderful program, staff and her horse friends. She has strengthened physically, and grown as a person”. -Juan Luis and Susan Sanchez.
