As many of you know Lupus has become a very real part of my life with my Mother's diagnosis in 2010. I had no idea what Lupus was or how it was affecting and how it would affect her. My education on Lupus has expanded but it is still a disease which doctors are still trying to understand with a lot of unknowns.
Simple pleasures in life like sitting in the sun has become a pastime and replaced by routine doctor visits monitoring this level or that and learning your body's new limitations.
I am grateful that my Mom has an amazing support system and a team of doctors ensuring she remains in remission.
But what is remission? Just keeping the symptoms at bay? What is the cure? Can my Mom ever enjoy the beach again?
After over coming my own personal struggles I have switched my focus back to where it should have never left, my family and myself. 7 yrs later I am committing to participating in my 2nd half marathon with the ambition to raise awareness on Lupus and self appreciation/worth. We all deserve to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Please help me raise awareness for those suffering from Lupus and work towards a life without Lupus.
