As many of you all know, Lucy was born extremely premature in 2017 at just 26 weeks gestation (a little over three months early). We spent a total of 148 days in the NICU, a number that our family will never forget. To say it was a difficult time is an understatement.
Johnny and I were beyond exhausted mentally, emotionally, and physically from driving to and from the hospital every day after working, repeatedly hearing medical terms that defined our journey as parents, only bonding with our daughter through a clear box tangled with wires and tubes, and having our faith and strength tested day in and day out.
But because of Pierce's Project, our NICU journey was a little more bearable. We were able to count on a warm meal and free parking at the hospital because of the wonderful souls at Pierce's Project and their generous donors. Not to mention the support we received to find financial resources to pay for our hospital expenses. I know it may not sound like much, but it really meant the world to us to have such basic needs met in a time where we felt so completely broken.
And, if you did not know, I have been blessed to be a part of the team at Pierce's Project running our new counseling program. I personally went to counseling throughout my NICU stay and continue to do so to process a lot of the trauma, and I believe this to be an invaluable source of support to thrive once again after the NICU.
Even though we are 1.5 years out of the NICU, that experience stays with you, and all of us at Pierce's Project understand the importance to support our families before, during, and after the NICU.
I, wholeheartedly, believe in the mission of Pierce's Project and hope that you will consider helping us support others like me. All donations go directly back to our families through our care packages, meals, parking subsidies, counseling sessions, and hospitality carts.
I know we all read "no amount is too small" all the time, but it really is true. Each dollar adds up and it does help. We can't do this alone. Thank you for taking the time to read this and considering supporting our cause.
Mary, Johnny, and Lucy
