Lucky’s Cat House was founded on the belief that we can’t do everything, but we can do something. Our founder and director of operations, Jaclyn Payne, had the thought that cats in Marshall county needed help after rescuing countless dumped and abandoned cats and kittens over the years. Marshall county, TN has a population of 35,000 people, made up mostly of rural farmlands. Marshall county has one animal shelter and one animal control officer. The Lewisburg Animal Shelter only accepts stray dogs, no cats, and no animal control services for cats. Jaclyn knew something had to be done, so she learned the ins and outs of rescue in the hopes to start a cat shelter and offer assistance that is so desperately needed.
One year after working in the rescue world and 1,500 cats saved, Jaclyn and a group of likeminded individuals started Lucky’s Cat House in November 2019. The first ever cat only rescue in our area, we focus on local counties that do not have animal control services for felines. Areas that are overrun with hoardings, abused and neglected cats with no resources to help. Jaclyn opened her home to the cats and kittens in Marshall, Lincoln and Giles counties. Lucky’s Cat House is now 1 year old and are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We have implemented TNR (Trap neuter and release) program for the three counties we serve and are helping other rescues and shelters implement the same. We have educated, assisted, and work alongside animal control to help the kitties in need. In our first year of operation, we have adopted 167 kitties into loving forever homes, TNR 184, and transferred 196 to rescue partners in bigger cities.
Lucky’s Cat House is making a huge impact in cat’s lives, but there are so many we cannot help simply due to space. Our Founder has opened her home and turned it into “The Cat House” housing up to 50 cats and kittens at a time, with the assistance of volunteers. We are a volunteer only group with no paid staff and rely on donations from the public to help us save kitties. Lucky’s has the donations to cover a new building (the shell), that will become the actual shelter for cats. Our founder has donated 2 acres of land. The FIRST EVER cat-only shelter/rescue in our area!!! A light of hope for the overlooked and neglected felines. A source of hope, but we need to finish the inside to make our dream come true!!! Plumbing, electrical, walls, insulation, drywall, doors, windows, fixtures, flooring, paint are all needed. We have been called the little rescue that could, and we have put the kitties in the spotlight. We don’t shy away from challenges! Education and action are our defensives and we CAN DO something. Help us build the FIRST EVER cat shelter in this area and save more kitties!!!!
