We are trekking to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Ri and hoping to raise money for the Himalayan Cataract Project.
We came across this organisation in our travels and were inspired by their work to eliminate preventable and curable blindness in Nepal and other developing nations. We thought it would be quite nifty to raise some awareness and funds to help HCP continue their work.
90% of the world's visually impaired come from low income settings where malnutrition, inadequate health and education services, poor water quality, and a lack of sanitation all lead to a high incidence of eye disease.
Today, over 39 million people worldwide are suffering from unnecessary blindness and 50% of avoidable blindness is caused by cataracts. This can be treated by a simple, low-cost, one-time procedure which can restore full sight to patients.
The altitude of Everest Base Camp is 5364m, so we hope to raise $5364. $1 for every meter higher. It only costs $25 to restore someone's eyesight. Soooo If you choose to donate $25 or more, we will come to your house and make you PANCAKES
Although, any donation would be highly appreciated.
Looking forward to cooking in your kitchen soon. We will travel far and wide (no further than Canberra)
