Hello friends and family,
For the past year and a half I have been living the dream in Grenada, going to vet school and saving animals in this beautiful tropical climate. Now I have this amazing opportunity to participate in Rural Area Veterinary Services Lower brule and Pine Ridge reservations. Im packing my stethoscope and a ton of sunscreen and heading to South Dakota for two weeks of fun in the sun and of course what every vet student desperately craves, veterinary experience!
The community on the reservation I will be going to has had no access to health care for their pets. We will be providing vaccinations, physical exams, and life saving surgeries to any animal presented to us. The kind of preventative care we provide is not cheap and we rely on donations from friends and family to be able to give the animals free services. If you have any spare change please consider donating to a cause in desperate need of help.
A little informations about the clinic I will be attending. In June of 2019, RAVS staff and volunteers will travel to South Dakota visiting the Lower Brule and Pine Ridge Reservations. The team of roughly 30 veterinary students and 15 professional volunteers will offer free spay/ neuter and wellness care to more than 1,000 animals in these remote communities where regular veterinary care is not available. In addition to wellness services, RAVS volunteers will care for animals with a wide range of health concerns including puppies suffering from parvovirus and distemper infections and older animals suffering from multiple infirmities. We will help animals with old traumatic injuries and festering wounds, returning them to a happier life with their family. While providing this care, our volunteers and staff will be educating the family on animal care and public health, helping to make the community a better place for the animals and the people of Lower Brule and Pine Ridge. https://www.lowerbrulesiouxtribe.com/ https://friendsofpineridgereservation.org/
