Hey everyone! I am so excited for the opportunity to travel to South Dakota this summer to participate as a volunteer with the Rural Area Vet Service! I will be joining a team of veterinary students and professional volunteers on the Lower Brule Reservation and the Pine Ridge Reservation. While I'm there, I will help to provide free services to these communities that have little access to veterinary care otherwise. This will be an invaluable experience in which I will be able to practice my clinical skills while providing veterinary care to those who need it most.
RAVS is a non-profit organization, so the money that you donate will go directly to helping to provide continuing care to communities such as the ones to which I will be traveling. If you have the ability, I hope that you will contribute to this incredible cause. Thank you!
So you have an idea of what exactly your donation could provide:
$10 can provide vaccines for one animal,
$25 can treat one dog for life-threatening tick-borne illness,
$35 provides anesthetic + surgical supplies to spay/neuter one dog or cat,
$75 gives Parvovirus treatment for one puppy,
$100 can provide spay/neuter, vaccination and wellness care for one dog or cat, and
$250 can give emergency surgery and aftercare for one seriously injured dog or cat.
Here's the official description from RAVS:
In June of 2019, RAVS staff and volunteers will travel to South Dakota visiting the Lower Brule and Pine Ridge Reservations. The team of roughly 30 veterinary students and 15 professional volunteers will offer free spay/ neuter and wellness care to more than 1,000 animals in these remotes communities where regular veterinary care is not available. In addition to wellness services, RAVS’ volunteers will care for animals with a wide range of health concerns including puppies suffering from parvovirus and distemper infections and older animals suffering from multiple infirmities. We will help animals with old traumatic injuries and festering wounds, returning them to a happier life with their family. While providing this care, our volunteers and staff will be educating the family on animal care and public health, helping to make the community a better place for the animals and the people of Lower Brule and Pine Ridge. https://www.lowerbrulesiouxtribe.com/ https://friendsofpineridgereservation.org/
