According to the Housing Alliance, there is an estimated 3,500 people in the state of Delaware who will experience homelessness at some point during the year. Homeless people are living in cars, tents, abandon buildings, sheds and storage buildings. There is also an epidemic of drug and alcohol abuse in the state of Delaware per WHYY.com resulting in over 202 suspected deaths. This devastation leaves many families destitute, hopeless and often not knowing where to turn. The Housing Alliance's 2018 report also revealed that at least 20% of homeless adults have a mental illness, and at least 40% have a disability (including addiction). The story these numbers tell is a collective crisis that isolates people from resources.
