Currently there is a small population in Ketchikan that are still unable to be housed because of lack of affordable housing, mental illness, addiction, lack of social norms, etc.. It has been a proven model that all people do better when they are stably housed. Love In Action would like to build a model Conestega Hut (Modeled after similar huts being used in Oregon), to see how it holds up in our Southeast, Alaska environment. This will allow us to determine if they are a viable option to offer in Ketchikan. We have a builder, we have some plans....the cost of materials is suspected to be between $1500-$2000. We are looking to raise the materials money from people who believe everyone deserves a home of their own. Your contribution could get someone off of the street, into a private space of their own where they would have a bed and a storage area. If this model works well we would hope to build more, as needed.
