My beautiful mother Lonna was diagnosed with Uterine Sarcoma in February. Unfortunately her primary Dr. did not think her bleeding issue was anything but fibroids. At 75 a woman should not have a period,it is not normal, and brushing it off as fibroids for two months caused it to grow outside the uterus. They believed they got everything with a radical hysterectomy in February. She would undergo chemo as a preventative measure for any molecular cells not seen. Chemo was extremely harsh on her. After asking them to scan her after her 5th treatment they saw it spread to her liver and new tumors had grown in her abdomin. They started a different chemo right away and a few treatments in she started feeling better. Then she began having bleeding in her bowels. They did a colonoscopy and found a partially obstructing tumor in her colon and a large mass in her abdominal area. This chemo too failed. She went in for a scan and when we got home they called us to immediately go to the ER there would be a team of doctors waiting for us as they found many pulmonary embolisms. My mom spent almost a week in the hospital and our family took 24 hour shifts being with her and sleeping over with her. She was discharged last Sunday afternoon to home hospice. My beautiful, wonderful, loving, funny, mom, grandmother and great grandmother will soon be leaving us to this dreaded disease. This is such a rare and deadly type of cancer and funding for this research needs to be made.
