Every year, the Lake Orion Lions Club and volunteer families from our community deliver about two weeks of food, Christmas dinner, gifts and essential supplies like toilet paper and laundry detergent to over 200 households in our area that need help. We have been doing this great work for decades, but this year may be the toughest ever because of Covid. At a time when more people need help, we have had to cancel most of our fundraisers, leaving us with a big shortage in our charity budget. Also, we depend upon our school district to collect food for us every year. With the schools currently closed, we don't know if we will get nearly as much from the schools as normal.
Watch the video from a couple years ago to see just how big this effort is and how much the community is involved. After all the sorting and shopping for families is done, more families come the next day to personally deliver packages to homes. How rewarding for the kids to learn what it's like to help other people!
If you normally come to the Christmas For Everyone Auction in November, you would pay $80 for entry per couple plus whatever you purchase at the auction. Please consider donating that amount this year since we can't have the auction.
If we get enough support there may be extra funds to support our other projects, such as helping people who need glasses or hearing aids, Lions Bear Lake Camp, or Leaderdog For The Blind, just to name a few.
