Help us keep our rescued animals fed during this time of need.
Locket's Meadow Farm (formally known as Rescues Who Rescue) is a non-profit farm animal rescue and sanctuary in Bethany, Connecticut. Home to over 140 rescued animals, including 35 horses and a menagerie of donkeys, mules, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, llamas, dogs, cats, and various birds, we have a lot of mouths to feed. Our farm sanctuary is almost entirely sustained financially by David Melina and Kathleen Schurman who started rescuing at this sanctuary about 20 years ago. It costs over $2,000 EACH WEEK to cover the hay and grain to feed our animals, and then there are mortgages, utilities, farriers, vet bills, prescriptions and supplements for our special needs animals - the list really does go on. What the COVID-19 pandemic has meant to us is devastating really. Being an independent financial consultant, David's business has suffered from the economic slow-down in a major way, and the farm is unable to hold the usual fundraisers we host in the spring and summer months that help us get through the harsh winter. Now, winter is a distant concern, as the more immediate needs to just make it through spring and summer leave us trying every creative way we can to fundraise to keep the sanctuary going, such as Zoom Animals, a campaign to have some of our animal ambassadors attend virtual meetings for a small donation. Our greatest fear is that if we can't keep our animals fed and the mortgage and utilities paid, the majority of our sweet babies that we've had for years could up going to auction, and ultimately slaughtered for meat.
We kindly ask that you join us in supporting our sweet animals. Your gift will help provide immediate financial support so we can purchase essential food, medicines, and other supplies for animals that otherwise would likely end up going to slaughter. Help us keep our animals safe and healthy as we all come together as a community during this uncertain time.
