Welcome to my Boston Marathon 2020 fundraising page!
As you may know, I rescued by dog Lucy in 2017 and she has been such a wonderful addition to my life. I have raised money for animal shelters in the past, and in 2020, I am honored to be running the Boston Marathon to support a local shelter, Stray Pets In Need of MA (SPIN). This will be my 8th (!!) marathon, and first Boston.
SPIN helps care for stray animals by providing veterinary care, as well as housing them in their shelter in Natick, MA, or arranging for foster homes, until they can find their forever homes. Their adoption center for cats, Kitty City, is located at Pet World in Natick. Aside from cats and dogs, SPIN recently has cared for a parakeet and a sick wild Muscovy duck named Stanley who lives at Lake Waban on the Wellesley College campus. SPIN was established by longtime Wellesley Animal Control Officer Sue Webb in 1991 when a puppy had been hit by a car and needed medical treatment but no local shelters had the funds to care for it.
SPIN does so much more than help with stray animals, though—SPIN works to help keep pets out of shelters. Many pets each year are surrendered to animal shelters because the owner is no longer able to care for them, such as when a pet's owner flees from domestic violence. SPIN works with the organization SafePeopleSafePets to help with veterinary care and fostering for any type of pet whose owner is seeking safety in a domestic violence shelter.
In addition, SPIN helps local seniors and people with disabilities to keep their pets. For example, when a low-income senior is hospitalized and no family or friend is available to care for the pet until they return, SPIN will temporarily foster the pet. Volunteers also transport pets to veterinary appointments, and SPIN helps cover vet costs so the animal can stay with their human companion.
SPIN is run 100% by volunteers, which ensures that all donated money goes to help the animals who need it.
Thank you so much for your donation and helping give meaning to my miles!
