Dear LPK family.
We send this quarterly update to you with a heavy heart given the state of the world and with a hope of your support to help our organization through these challenges and move forward stronger.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Living Positive Kenya has been faced with many challenges of late. We made the difficult choice to close the office as per recommendations from the health authority in order to keep everyone associated with the program safe and healthy. Since then staff have been working hard to stay connected with all of the women within our family, to provide them with financial assistance, food support from the farm, handwashing stations to stay clean, phones to maintain communication and support in any matters that they might need.
Sadly the current state of the economy has forced one of our major partners for WEEP to pause the funding that they provide. This combined with a decline in sales from the chicken project has left the organization in a financially precarious position. As of April 1st 2020 the staff at LPK has all been put on unpaid leave and the decision was made to close one wing of the office in order to save money on rent. Although these were difficult choices to make, they were made with the full support of our team. It is our hope that these cutbacks will allow us to continue to support the families within our community.
At this time we would like to make an appeal to you for support. Although we know that many of you are also struggling we hope that it is within your means to support us at this time. Truly there is no donation to small and all funds will be put directly into maintaining Living Positive Kenya and supporting the community.
Thank you for your consideration,
Living Positive Kenya and Global Youth Volunteer Network
