Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center is a 91 year old non-profit, no-kill rescue located in the township of Huntington. The 6 acre property accommodates over 300 dogs and cats at any given time in a beautiful wooded setting.
Since its establishment in 1927, Little Shelter has been a leader in the community providing adoption services and innovative give back programs such as low cost feline spay/neuter, an Animal Soup Kitchen, local municipal shelter rescue and more. Through private donations and fundraising, Little Shelter has continued to raise the bar in rescue saving animals from natural disaster areas such as Puerto Rico, kill shelters in the south and international rescues from the Korean meat market.
Age, physical condition, and socialization issues are never criteria for rescuing a dog or cat whose life is in jeopardy. Through rescue, rehabilitation and a 100% spay/neuter program, Little Shelter hopes to end pet overpopulation on Long Island. As a member of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Little Shelter is regularly called upon by the city’s municipal shelters to take dogs and cats. All Little Shelter pets receive the highest quality medical care and are spayed/neutered before adoption. Every potential adopter is thoroughly screened to ensure the best quality homes.
