When I moved to this farm in May 2018 to start Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary, I was able to negotiate in a golf cart with the sale of the farm. I never knew just how valuable of an asset I was getting at that point. When I moved into the farm, it was literally a moving vehicle being loaded up with boxes, mattresses, etc to get everything from the truck to the front door. It then later became our life line of getting around the farm and with all the projects that had to be done - it not only has carried hay and water to the animals but also fence boards, posts, ladders, tools and so much more.
In the last two years, the golf cart has died 3 times leaving me to walking for several weeks on end.
Well - about a week before the official lockdown hit in March, the golf cart died for the 4th time and had to be pushed back to the shed and after ordering a new charger thinking that was the solution, it has not left the shed since. I hate to keep putting money into it when it is consistenly keeps having issues.
So for the last 6 weeks, I have walked between 4 to 6 miles a day on average. Everyday that is, as sanctuary life never gets a day off. We have had a beautiful spring so extra walks have sometimes been enjoyable but a few days, my legs have felt differently, and when it is 100 degrees or 10 degrees, I know I won't be enjoying it at all.
I luckily had done a birthday fundraiser for Little Buckets knowing this day was going to come and we raised $1535 towards a UTV back in February. I had been looking for a used vehicle but I have not been able to get my hands on one and during this search, I came across Powersports Carolina (https://www.powersportscarolina.com/ ) in Lancaster, SC who is giving me a great deal on a new one and Scott, who has been great to work with is putting on a few needed accessories as well as delivering it for me on his own time. This is saving us a lot of money and definitely making a new one a more viable and better option.
This Utility Vehicle will probably get more miles on it than my truck so having it be new and reliable will be so great eliminating so much stress especially when my brother leaves for good and will no longer be able to help me out as he has been doing for a good portion of the two years I have been here. So all the farm chores will be on me and so having this vehicle will become even more important in keeping me going while taking care of the gang while still working my job. Time and energy are extremely valuable assets to have when caring for over 35 animals and taking care of 31 acres.
I realize asking for this giant amount of money could not come at a worst time and I know many of you who would have loved to help, might not be able to at this time and I completely understand this. I have waited 6 weeks to even ask this but I felt I at least got to ask. Those that have followed Little Buckets have always told me to ask for help when needed. It is extremely difficult to have to ask for help that is not directly for the animals but I honestly know that this is needed for me to take care of the animals. It will help me carry loads of hay, carry tools, keep me dry, save me time and so much more. And you know who will be as excited as I will be if we are able to get a new UTV, Colton. Because Colton always rode with me everywhere on the farm so guess what, she has been walking too and she has been extra tired at night. She does a tremendous amount of walking plus she always took her naps on the golf cart too! :)
Any amount you are able to give us to help us reach our goal will be so appreciated. Thank you so much for your support and love. We love you right back. Please take care and stay well!
