The Linnton Community Center has been an active resource in the community since 1926. Currently they offer Pre-School, before and after school programs, and currently are hosting students for distanced learning. They are an outreach point for the Oregon Food Bank and have a volunteer coordination center.
This fall, to help with student needs during the Covid 19 pandemic, they started a youth program to host students. "Meeting the needs of working parents during this Pandemic! Linnton Community Center provides mentors to supervise & help with the new on-line schooling! Let us know how we can help with the child care needs of your family! A full day of enrichment activities including Spanish & Yoga while following all state health guidelines to protect the health of your child during this difficult time."
The cost of this program per student is $1000 per month. Skyline School currently has students who are attending the program and are finding it difficult to meet the tuition. One family in particular has to have their student there during the day because they have absolutely no internet connection at their house. Internet doesn't extend to their house and the provided hot spot devices are of no help because there is no cellular signal. They have applied for DHS but were denied because it was determined this was an added expense that wasn't school, or child care.
The goal of this crowd sourcing campaign is to provide tuition for one student. The overall tuition is going to be around $4,200, provided we go back to school on the 28th of January.
We are starting small with the goal of $1000 and I know that we can do much, much more!
