Lindblom students are passionate about their futures and dedicated to becoming leaders in their communities. Yet, for many students, the actions of the federal government feel distant, cold, and unknowable. The CloseUp Program closes this gap by bringing together students from around the country for an intensive week focused on history, politics, and activism. Students walk the halls of Congress and learn to communicate their ideas effectively to members of government.
With your help, twelve Lindblom students will travel to Washington D.C. and participate in the CloseUp Program this May. The funds raised will offset travel, hotel, and program costs and allow the students to realize their potential as members of our democracy. Especially in this era, exposing the next generation to the power of their voices is essential. All donations will be tax deductible through a partnership with the Friends of Lindblom, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Without donations, this experience will not be possible, as the program costs are too much of a burden for the primarily low-income families of Lindblom students.
The students selected to attend this year’s trip are all high achievers in Honors or Advanced Placement United States History. They created the attached video and wrote the testimonial below to explain their reasons for wanting to participate in this trip:
We think youth should be involved in politics. We are the generation who will be leading this country in the future, and this trip will give us the chance to become more prepared and educated. This is an opportunity for us to experience politics first hand, by going on a trip to the country's capital. We will be able to interact with Representatives and learn more about how the overall government in the country works. Students who attended previous years were very enthusiastic about the experience and we can not wait to go in May!
