My Mom, Linda Paskvan, passed away December 16th, 2018 and in lieu of any gifts, flowers, memorial, etc we ask that you consider donating to this fundraiser.
My mom was a domestic violence survivor. Despite the fact that women often don’t leave these situations due to fear (75% of homicides of a battered women are when a woman tries to leave), financial constraints, embarrassment, among other reasons, my mom knew she needed to get me out of this dangerous situation. With the help of my grandmother, she left and raised me alone.
Also, my mom loved empowering women. She always encouraged me to be a strong independent woman, she mentored my friends, was support system to her fellow AA colleagues and mentored other women during her time at the Unemployment Agency (although I hear she was a strict boss- she did help many advance their careers).
That is why in lieu of a service, memorial, flowers or gifts to her daughter, we ask that any gifts of sympathy be donated to the SafeHouse YWMCA OF Flint.
The YWCA SafeHouse provides safe, temporary shelter and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their minor children.
