I am in my 3rd year of studying Midwifery and during the Christmas break I will be volunteering in Kenya, in the isolated Maasai Mara region.
I have chosen to dedicate my time and gather donations as during my training to become a Midwife I have become even more aware of how fortunate we are in the UK to have such excellent NHS midwifery care. The rural villages of the Maasai Mara are not so fortunate.
My time will be dedicated at the Africa Mission Services Birth Center and Clinics, which is an international NGO.
Their mission is to assist rural, underdeveloped communities within Africa to improve their quality of life physically, mentally and morally. I will look to maintain that mission by providing maternity care for the local community in rural villages of the Maasai Mara.
I am hoping that with my so far gained experience, knowledge and skills, I can contribute to help women to have a better birthing experience. I also look forward to learn from, and to share insight with the local midwifery team, which I am sure will be a very valuable experience!
The money I raise with your kind support will ensure the birthing centre have the funds to purchase all of the necessary equipment and medication to keep mother and baby safe.
