I run for Lilyan, a very special young lady who also happens to have Cerebral Palsy. When she was born her parents were told that she would never walk or talk or feed herself. She now can do all of those things and works very hard to show that CP is a condition she has, not a limitation. One of the biggest things that I've learned is that she is much better motivation for me than I ever could be for her. The things she has overcome in her life are far beyond anything I ever will. The first race I ran for Lilyan was also my first half marathon. She is 8 years old now. 13.1 times 8 equals 104.8. What could be done with that number that could show how much Lilyan means to me and raise awareness for CP? Something that would also show that you don't have to be an elite athlete to do your part, just someone who cares and tries their best? So here we go, 104.8 miles also happens to be the distance, if you add a few curves between Kingsport, TN where I practice as a paramedic and Knoxville, TN where I live. Why don't I just run from one city to the other? If I can do that and manage to let everyone know about Lilyan and raise money for United Cerebral Palsy... Well why not? The simple fact that I have never ran, walked or crawled more than 26.2 miles should not stop a dream! That dream will become a reality on November 1st when I depart Kingsport and wind my way to the banks of the Tennessee River in Knoxville. Please help me by donating generously to UCP and asking everyone you know to do the same. Together we can make a difference in the lives of so many!!
