In August 2020, Lift Music Fund was started to address the racial inequity in the field of music. We saw how this intersected with the racial wealth gap in our country: building a career in music is expensive, and not everyone has the same access to the financial support needed to forge a successful path.
So, starting in September 2020, we began awarding microgrants to young BIPOC musicians. These students are the future of music: they are driven, creative, passionate, and skilled. We are so honored to be able to support them in their musical endeavors, and now we are asking for your support for future students.
This past year, we were able to award around $2,000 every month, which was a strong start. Now we are at $3,000/month. So far, 135 students have received over $18,300 in Lift Awards. (Get to know them here.)
Still, the total amount requested keeps growing, reaching $6,000-7,000 per month, and unfortunately we haven't been able to meet the need. That's why we are asking for your support: next year, our goal is to award $4,000 in Lift Awards every month. And, if we blow past this crowdfunding goal, we can look at coming even closer to meeting the full need.
Our vision is to be able to support every student who applies. Help us realize this vision.
