Since 2010, the Seven Hills Foundation (www.sevenhills.org) through our international aide affiliate, Seven Hills Global Outreach (www.shgo.org) has worked in raising nearly $900,000 USD to build 2 schools, a comprehensive rural medical clinic, a dental clinic, 2 birthing centers, 24 clean water wells and 25 village toilets in support of our efforts to address dire poverty, lack of healthcare, economic development and educational opportunities for children in the BO region of Sierra Leone. In addition, Seven Hills Global Outreach has supported our local Zion Ministries partner in BO to cover the annual operating costs of teachers and nurse salaries to staff these facilities in the city of BO and in 26 rural villages. Thousands have benefitted and their lives significantly uplifted.
We are now taking a ‘leap of faith’ in acquiring a small plot of land to construct a community library for the children of BO and the surrounding rural villages. Updated school textbooks and reading books are virtually nonexistent in rural Sierra Leone and by providing children books to read and learn from and modern textbooks for teachers to teach from we can uplift a new generation of children so that they in turn can uplift their nation. An education for the children of BO is the key to their future and the future of their country – and this library can jump start that dream!
Working with “Books for Africa” we have acquired 20,000 new textbooks and reading books which will arrive in Sierra Leone by December 2020. We have also purchased Library Management Software suitable to maintain a community library of 20,000 – 30,000 books. To give the children of BO, Sierra Leone the gift of “hope” we are asking for the financial support needed to construct a library building - $35,000 USD. We have the books, we have the software necessary to operate a community library, and there are thousands of children desperately waiting for the miracle of a library. What is needed in this GoFundMe effort is $35,000 USD to acquire the land and build a simple library structure.
Thousands of children in BO are without books to learn from, to be inspired by, or through which to dream of new possibilities. Our hope is that when children can read books by Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, plays by Shakespeare, the prose and poetry of Maya Angelo, Chris Abani, and Catherine Acholonu, or the biographies of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and so many others, the children of BO can dream of a new reality for themselves. If you can join us in funding this new library, the books will help guide the children to discover their own dreams. We are almost there in making this ‘dream’ a reality for the children in BO.
We thank you for your hopeful support and encourage you to visit our websites for updates on the partnership in Sierra Leone and how to get involved:
