My name is Brandon Leong. I started rowing at Los Gatos Rowing Club this summer. Rowing is a sport where all rowers have to be very dedicated, as we have practice five times a week, totalling around fifteen hours. These hours, hard but fun, the rowers have together allow me and other rowers to build friendships which make the team almost like another family. This year I am a part of the novice mens team , which will compete in various cities that are all pretty far away. The equipment such as carbon fiber shells and oars are very expensive. Getting into competitions, paying for the coaches, and travelling to the competions is also very expensive. We are holding this fundraiser to cover the cost of purchasing new equipment as the fee to row does not cover equipment costs. By helping raise $450 it will help all the rowers attain new equipment, this year being a new boat.
Founded in 1979, Los Gatos Rowing Club (LGRC) has trained and coached more than 2,500 highschool-level student-athletes from all over the Silicon Valley. This year our club is celebrating 40 years of rowing on the beautiful Lexington Reservoir (located just outside of Los Gatos CA, along HW17).
Over the last four decades, our junior rowers have consistently competed on the national level, and have found much success in bringing home numerous regional, and national titles. Although rowing is a smaller, less visual sport, many of our athletes are recruited to row at top colleges and universities across the country.
As participants of our teams, our club members and athletes, fundraise every fall to keep our equipment in optimal performance conditions. With time, and daily transportation to and from the water, our boats and equipment see a fair amount of wear and tear. We’re in constant need of rotating through, replacing and retiring boats. Proper equipment, including shells (boats), oars, and cox boxes (in-boat microphone/audio), are key to competing at the top level.
LGRC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; any donations made are tax deductible.
