The National LGBTQ Workers Center is a Black and Brown trans and queer volunteer-led space where lgbtq can go to stand up to workplace discrimination and fight for economic justice. We work toward progressive social change through issue-based grassroots organizing and education, with an emphasis on uplifting queer and trans Black, indigenous, people of color (QTBIPOC). Our current operating base is Chicago, IL.
We are raising money to staff and fully launch an LGBTQ Anti-Discrimination Hotline Project.
Our project gets at the heart of the issues of discrimination and harassment. We are responding to this unique moment by creating a place for workers who need support. Our two part program consists of a multi-week paid advocate training program, where LGBTQ workers will learn how to support workers who face discimination and harassment, and also navigate Chicago area worker justice systems.
Workers like us are at risk.
Workers like us have been hurting since before this global pandemic hit. LGBTQ workers especially Black and Brown and trans women are in crisis. 1 in 5 of us will live in poverty. QTBIPOC are also twice as likely to experience discrimination at work based on their sexual orientation. The groundbreaking Supreme Court decision announced on June 15 (Bostock v. Clayton County) does now protect LGBTQ workers--but without a way to enforce those protections, we know this far from signals the end of our work.
We need to raise $20,000 to give Chicago’s LGBTQ workers a fighting chance.
Here’s how we’ll use this money:
If 300 people donate $60 today, we’ll raise our goal and guarantee this hotline is active through 2020.
Donate $5, $15, $30 or $60, or you can share the link to your Facebook and spread the word about this groundbreaking campaign!
The National LGBTQ Workers Center is a fiscally sponsored project of NEO Philanthropy (formally Public Interest Projects).
